Good for kids
I visited here several times during 2009 and hiked the desert which was very enjoyable to escape the chaos of Riyadh City. The area was great for hiking and didn't require too much effort. Only 30 - 45 minutes drive from the centre of Riyadh so was very convenient. There were hundreds of wild baboons in the cliff areas. Although they look peaceful and keeping to themselves, it isn't advisable to approach them because they will attack to protect their babies and young baboons. They obviously have good senses of food as do come close when you have food. Again, care must be taken as they are known to attack in large numbers. They are wild in a very dry area with limited food available so care must be taken.

Well worth a trip if you live in Riyadh (but keep a close watch on kids as the baboons are not always friendly).
We visited in January and there were no Baboons, drive a little ahead you will find Heet caves, that will make your drive worth it
